Digital Neuropsychological Tests
Development of digital tools for neuropsychological testing at the Neuroscience department of the University of Almeria. Digitization of cognitive research protocols.
The Challenge
Neuroscience researchers administered cognitive tests on paper, limiting temporal measurement precision and the ability to analyze data at scale.
Results
- Neuropsychological tests successfully digitized
- Millisecond-precision temporal measurement
- Direct collaboration with neuroscience researchers
- System used in active academic research
The Solution
I digitized neuropsychological testing protocols by creating software tools that measure reaction times with millisecond precision and export data directly into the department's analysis pipeline.
Motivation
It started with a Psychology internship at the Neuroscience department. It was truly my first professional project.
Challenges
Measuring reaction times with precision was a huge challenge. I used MATLAB and OpenSesame, which are designed for that kind of measurement.
Learnings
I learned how rigid and slow everything is in an academic environment, but they let me develop and learn at my own pace. I was very demanding of myself, and that positively shaped my career.
Context
The system is still in use as far as I know. I participate in any related publications.
